Such horrors on the tv screen; 
We have no need for Halloween. 
The daily violence on the news 
Gives all the nightmares we can use. 
Was man’s inhumanity to man 
Ever in the masterplan? 

Are we animals, deadly from our birth, 
Or angels fallen down to earth? 
Beasts kept down by rules and laws, 
Or cherubs growing deadly claws? 
Born bad, made civil by the world, 
Or good, and ruined as our lives unfurl? 

Does the savage lurk beneath our skin, 
Or do we have good hearts within? 
We’re terrorised by dogs of war; 
Each howl exceeds the one before. 
Can we just live in peace one day?
Saints or sinners, either way?
